The Grundtvig Church in Copenhagen - Light from above
Danlamp has supplied incandescent lamps for the unique Grundtvig Church in Emdrup. The Grundtvig Church is a monumental, cathedral-like building erected in gothic style. The Church was opened in 1940.
The Church Room put great demands on light and lamps as they faced the risk of disappearing in the enormous room. This meant that we had to create structures with a strong and autonomous expression but at the same time communicated the grand idea of the Church Room.
Lighting in Grundtvig Church
The solution was a series of lamps that forms a striking and airy structure that seems to keep itself afloat. This was achieved through a combination of shape, metal and luminous flux. To make the lamps blend naturally into the holy room of the Grundtvig Church both aesthetically and thematically the lamps were given a cross like shape. Long filament was chosen to create a warm and kind glow – ideal for both churches and private homes.
The chandeliers was created in cooperation with Danish architects P.V. Jensen-Klint, Kaare Klint and Esben Klint.
